Ninety years ago, this spot pictured top, was an open, quiet space next to the Allenby Monument. The  Cyclamen  🌸  (Cyclamen persicum) Cyclamen is a genus of 25 species of perennial flowering plants in the family Primulaceae. In English, it is known by the common names sowbread or swinebread & in Hebrew,   רקפת Cyclamen are native to the eastern Mediterranean & can be spotted in woodland, on rocky hillsides & in shaded wadis. They are a familiar sight in the Carmel, Galilee, Judean hills & on Israel's coastal plain. This hardy plant blooms in late autumn & winter , the delicate pink, white or magenta flowers appearing  after the first rains. It  survives Israel’s long, dry summers thanks to a subterranean tuber which disappears entirely d uring the hottest months,  conserving energy until the rains return. Cyclamen are pollinated mainly by insects, especially bees, which are drawn by their subtle scent.
