זעמן מטבעות – the coin-marked whip snake.

One of Israel’s longest snakes, it can grow over 2 metres! Despite its size & speed, it isn't venomous, & plays an important role in controlling rodents & keeping nature in balance.
This snake is found right across Israel from the Mediterranean coast, to the Judean Hills & down into the Negev.
It prefers open fields, rocky slopes & scrubland. It maily hunts rodents, lizards & small birds - & sometimes even other snakes!

If you spot one, do not panic – admire it from a distance & let it continue its vital work in our ecosystem.
