Simon says: 🦎 "Meet the Sinai Fan-Fingered Gecko" 🇮🇱
The Sinai Fan-Fingered Gecko
🦎 The Sinai fan-fingered gecko (Ptyodactylus guttatus) is a small lizard found in Israel’s desert regions - from the Negev to the Judean hills & Sinai landscapes. Its toe pads help it cling to vertical rock faces, cliffs & crevices
🌙 Mostly active after dusk when the desert cools, this gecko relies on stealth & patience to hunt. By night, its large eyes help it spot prey among the shadows
🍽️ Its diet consists mainly of insects & other small arthropods - a handy predator in the ecosystem that helps control insect populations in desert habitats
🛡️ When threatened, like many geckos, it can drop its tail to distract predators, & regrow a new one. This helps it escape birds, snakes & small mammalian predators
🧬 The “fan-fingered” name comes from its wide, flattened toe pads that let it scamper up rocks & rough surfaces with ease
