The Coypu

The Hula Valley is famous for the 500 million birds that pass through its skies, but there’s another creature that often catches visitors’ attention – the coypu, also known as the nutria.

This semi-aquatic rodent, with its distinctive white whiskers & webbed feet, can often be spotted swimming through the waterways or grazing among the reeds.

Originally from South America, the coypu is an introduced species that has made itself very much at home in the Hula Valley!
