🌿 Meet the Sea Squill – Israel’s Autumn Herald 🌿
Meet the Drimia maritima, or Sea Squill, one of Israel’s most iconic wild plants. Every late summer, just as the heat begins to soften, its tall, leafless stalks suddenly appear, covered in tiny star-shaped white blooms.
For generations, its arrival has signalled the shift from the blazing summer to the gentler days of autumn. In folklore, farmers once planted rows of Sea Squill bulbs to mark field boundaries. The toxic bulbs ensured no grazing animal would nibble away the lines!
From rocky hillsides to coastal plains, the Sea Squill stands proud, quietly announcing: the seasons are turning.
