Simon says: "Let's discover the Israeli Sunbird" 🐦

🪺 This delicate, hanging nest is woven from plant fibres, spider silk, feathers & natural debris. It is often attached to branches or vines & is surprisingly resilient.

🌍 Sunbirds can be found across Israel in gardens, parks, wadis & woodland edges; threy thrive close to people, especially where flowering plants are abundant.

🍯 The Sunbird's diet is primarily nectar from flowers 🌺, using a long curved bill, but it also eats small insects & spiders for protein, especially during breeding season.

🐣 Breeding usually takes place in spring & early summer. Females build the nest alone, & lay 2 - 3 eggs, incubating them for around 2 weeks.

🦅 Potential predators include snakes, crows, cats & larger birds, which is why nest placement & camouflage are so important to their survival.

✨ Sunbirds are often mistaken for hummingbirds, but they perch to feed rather than hover - a key difference between the two.
