🌍 Native to the eastern Mediterranean, the carob tree thrives across Israel from the Galilee to the Judean hills. It is exceptionally drought-resistant, slow-growing & long-lived, making it perfectly suited to this climate.

📜 The carob has been part of life in the Land of Israel since biblical times. Most famously, Jewish tradition tells that Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai (the Rashbi) & his son survived for 13 years on carob pods & spring water while hiding in a cave in Peki’in during Roman persecution.

A carob tree still stands outside the cave today, symbolising faith, endurance & spiritual resilience. (You can see this tree, pictured above, for yourself if you join us on one of our very popular Druze Villages tours)

🍂 Carob pods are naturally sweet, nutritious & caffeine-free. Traditionally eaten fresh or dried, they are now used in carob powder, syrups & health foods.

🐝 Carob trees support pollinators, insects & birds, especially during dry seasons when few other food sources are available.

🌱 In Jewish thought, the carob represents:
